refugee farmers provide produce to tHe community**

An immersive interview, translated from Swahili to English, with a small group of refugee farmers who were able to grow produce from their home country, sell the produce to Second Harvest, and hand it to the community for free. Additionally, the blog carries you through a tour of Beardlsey Farm in Knox County, who made farmland accessible to 70 families in 2025 alone.

knoxville's no-cost Grocery store**

The Knox Haven Bread of Life (BOL) Store mimics a grocery store in nearly every sense, apart from visitors paying for their items. Those they serve even receive an itemized receipt, helping them plan financially for whenever they’re ready to graduate. The newly remodeled pantry’s layout was inspired by The Store, a pantry and nonprofit in Nashville founded by Brad Paisley and Kimberly Williams-Paisley. Read the tour & interview for more.

A heart-warming memorial piece on a man who chose to fight hunger with his words. It highlights the unique ways individuals choose to serve their communities, and recognizes both direct and conceptual ways Brewers' work addressed root causes of food insecurity in East Tennessee. Although his poetry stayed local, his generosity in his toughest moments was priceless.

food pantry interVieW: Wesley House in knox co.**

A visit to Wesley House sparked a conversation with Juanita, one of the founders. She shared that the Food Rescue truck deliveries every Tuesday provide her not only with cold food and meats that the pantry couldn’t otherwise afford, but also household items, such as shampoo and towels. Juanita even saves some of the household items for children to give as Christmas gifts to their parents. Read more from my interview with Juanita.
